Harold and Maude

August 16, 2010

One of my favorite movies is Harold and Maude (1971). It’s just so quirky and happy, despite the prevalence of death throughout the movie. Harold is a twenty-something obsessed with death who meets Maude, a 79-year-old determined to live every moment to the fullest. They hit it off, and I mean that in every way possible. I was pretty excited when I saw that you can watch Harold and Maude instantly on Netflix and as I rewatched it, I was struck with the urge to make a movie poster for it. So that’s what I did. They’re very simple and run along the same theme—a single object from the film on each poster. My favorite is the banjo.

Over on DesignSponge, Amy Merrick did a great “Living In” post, complete with a hearse. Also, the music in the movie is all Cat Stevens, and always makes me want to listen to great 70s music afterward. The soundtrack was released on vinyl a few years ago, but it’s really hard to find. Each song from the movie is available on his other albums, so I made an Amazon wish list with the nine tracks from the movie. Check it out here.
