Photo 099

April 19, 2011

You probably heard about the tornadoes that ripped through parts of central North Carolina on Saturday. I was actually at a wedding and sitting in the car at the reception site when my boyfriend and I heard the tornado siren and ran into the building. Everyone made it to the reception fine and were unscathed, but on our way home we passed by several areas where the tornado had destroyed homes and businesses. There was a tornado just about a mile from where we were.

This photo is from a small town east of Raleigh that was hit pretty hard. I was taking photos of the relief work for a client. The houses seemed relatively undamaged in this area, but there were dozens of trees all over the place. It reminded me of Hurricanes Fran and Floyd when neighbors and complete strangers all helped each other out to try and piece homes and lives back together.
